Open Space Principles

The guiding philosophy of our unconference

The Four Principles

1

Whoever comes is the right people

The people who show up are exactly the ones who need to be there. Every participant brings unique value and perspective.

2

Whenever it starts is the right time

Innovation and learning happen in their own time. Don't wait for the perfect moment - start when you're ready.

3

When it's over, it's over

Don't drag things out. When the energy is gone or the topic is exhausted, move on to something new.

4

Whatever happens is the only thing that could have

Let go of expectations. Be present with what emerges and trust the process.

The Law of Two Feet

If you find yourself in a situation where you're not learning or contributing, use your two feet to move to another session. This isn't rude - it's taking responsibility for your own learning experience.

Be a Bumblebee

Cross-pollinate ideas by moving between sessions, carrying insights and questions from one group to another.

Be a Butterfly

Sometimes the best conversations happen in the hallways. It's okay to flutter around and create spontaneous connections.

And Remember...

"Be Prepared to Be Surprised"

The best unconference experiences come from unexpected connections, surprising insights, and spontaneous collaborations. Stay open!

Knowledge Capture

To ensure the insights from our sessions live on, we encourage:

Note-Taking

Each session should appoint a volunteer note-taker

Photo Documentation

Capture whiteboards and flip charts

Shared Repository

All notes will be collected and shared post-event

Code of Conduct

We are committed to providing a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere for all participants. We have adopted the Berlin Code of Conduct.

Key Points:

  • ✓ Treat all participants with respect
  • ✓ No harassment or discrimination of any kind
  • ✓ Constructive dialogue - disagree on ideas, not people
  • ✓ Report any concerns to designated organizers

Additional Rule

No obnoxious recruiting or job hunting. Respectful professional networking is welcome, but this is a learning event, not a job fair.

How Sessions Work

Proposing a Session

  1. 1. Queue up your session idea in the mobile app
  2. 2. When it's your turn, announce your session to the group
  3. 3. Tell the organizer which slot on the marketplace grid
  4. 4. Show up and facilitate the discussion

Session Formats

  • • Open discussions
  • • Show and tell demos
  • • Hands-on coding sessions
  • • Problem-solving workshops
